In India’s first game of 2023, Sanju Samson got the opportunity to play in the first T20I of the three-match against Sri Lanka. Having been deprived of proper opportunities last year, fans were looking forward to seeing his wonderful strokeplay and a big score. However, after playing six balls, he threw his wicket after scoring only five runs. The right-hander batted at number four.

Samson came out to bat in the last over of the powerplay after the fall of Suryakumar Yadav. The former had ample of opportunities to do well and repay the faith of his fans. However, in the next over, the Keralite tried to hit a no-look six, only to be caught at short third man. After this, former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar wasn’t impressed with Sanju’s shot selection.

The 1983 World Cup winner added that Samson is such a fine but his shot selection lets him down. Gavaskar further added that this was one of those occasions in which the wicketkeeper batter has disappointed.

“And this time, it’s the leading edge going to short third man. He is such a fine player. Sanju Samson has so much of talent but his shot selection sometimes lets him down. And this is one more occasion where it has disappointed,” Gavaskar said on air.
