Commonwealth Games 2022 is all set to begin on 28 July 2022 in Birmingham, England. This event is known as a multi-sporting event as global eyeballs get attracted to it each year. Now, this year it becomes more special as cricket returns after 24 long years. Last time, it was in Kuala Lumpur in 1998 when the men’s competition was staged.

Now, this year, for the first time, women’s cricket will be conducted. Eight teams will participate across 16 matches at Edgbaston. Matches will be in a T20 format and thus, it will be helpful for those teams to get prepared ahead of the T20 World Cup next year. Among all the available teams, the three most favourite teams to win the Gold medal this time around are:

Indian women are one of the contenders who are likely to win the Gold medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022. They are coming off a T20I series victory over Sri Lanka women on their soil at a margin of 2-1. Top players like the skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Deepti Sharma looked in great touch as India thrashed Sri Lanka in both the ODI and T20I formats. However, India will find a tough fight in group stages as they have been put together with Australia, Pakistan, and Barbados women.

India will kick off the tournament as they are scheduled to take on Australia on 29 July 2022 at Edgbaston. However, during a media interaction on 22 July 2022, Smriti Mandhana looked very confident and opened up on their ultimate aim for this tournament. She said: “ We definitely aiming for gold and now just a podium finish. The mood is very good in the camp and we are very excited to compete at the CWG.  We have watched the Olympics and CWG on TV and I myself got goosebumps when the national anthem was played with Neeraj Chopra getting the gold medal in Tokyo. We want to replicate that feeling although this is not the Olympics,”
