 5 Established Players Who Made Their Debut Under Suresh Raina’s Captaincy

Suresh Raina is known as a top middle-order batter for India as he always looked to deliver top-class performance throughout his career. He also won the 2011 World Cup under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. He also managed to win many Indian T20 League Titles for his Chennai franchise.

But, Raina also captained India in several matches in absence of Dhoni during his career. He led India in 12 ODIs and three T20Is. He maintained a 100% record in the T20Is while in ODIs, he won six times and lost five times with one match ending in a no result. But, many established Indian stars made debuts under his captaincy across the formats.

This right-handed medium pacer from Karnataka was known for his varieties when he came into the International arena. In his overall career, he represented India across all three formats. He played 41 International matches and picked up 49 wickets. 

Vinay also contributed 99 runs with the bat in those matches. But, he made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe under Suresh Raina’s captaincy. India was in Zimbabwe for a limited overs series in 2010. In Dhoni’s absence, Raina took the responsibility and in this match, Vinay grabbed two wickets in eight overs.
