Since 2019, Virat Kohli was failing to score a century for India across all three formats. During the England tour, he tried his best. But, Kohli was unable to lay at his level best. Despite such a poor patch of form, he was getting selected for the playing Xi. It did not go well with Kapil Dev. He said that Kohli should be dropped also like other players if he is out of form.

Kapil Dev said: “Yes, now the situation is such that you might be forced to bench Kohli from T20 playing eleven. If world No. 2 bowler Ashwin can be dropped from the Test side then (once upon a time) world No. 1 batter can also be dropped. He has made a name because of his performances but if he isn’t performing consistently, then you can’t keep the performing youngsters out of the team.”
