In 2007, MS Dhoni won the inaugural edition of the T20 World cup as he led India to a victory in South Africa. In the final, India defeated Pakistan, and his trick of picking an inexperienced pacer Joginder Sharma instead of Harbhajan Singh to bowl the last over eventually paid off.

He played 98 matches, scoring 1617runs, including two fifties only in his overall career in the shortest format. He batted at an average of 37.60 and with a strike rate of 126.13.
