The Rajasthan Royals (RR), who recently defeated the defending champion Gujarat Titans (GT) by three wickets, faced the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 26th game of the 16th Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday, April 19, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Super Giants won the match by 10 runs and Marcus Stoinis was awarded the Player of the Match award for his brilliant all-round performance in the game.

After winning the toss, RR captain Sanju Samson decided to bowl first. After the first innings was through, the visitors who were batting first, scored 154 runs overall, while losing seven wickets. Kyle Mayers, a talented all-rounder for the West Indies, led the team in scoring with 51 runs off 42 balls, including four fours and three sixes in his innings. KL Rahul, the LSG captain, struck a critical 39 runs off 32 balls, including four fours and a six. Nicholas Pooran, the captain of the West Indies, towards the end, hit 28 runs off 20 balls, including two fours and a six.

The pick of the bowler for RR was India’s veteran off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, who snapped two wickets in his spell of four overs, where he conceded 23 runs. One wicket each was grabbed by Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma, and Jason Holder, who conceded 16 runs, 32 runs, and 37 runs, respectively, in their spells.

Nice to get involved with the ball: Marcus Stoinis

While chasing the target, RR was able to score only 144 runs with a loss of six wickets. The top scorer for the side was young Yashashvi Jaiswal, who scored 44 runs off 35 balls, with four fours and two sixes. The England skipper, Jos Buttler scored 40 runs from 41 balls with four fours and a six in his innings but that was not enough.

For the LSG, the pick of the bowler was Avesh Khan, who bagged three wickets in his spell of four overs, where he conceded 25 runs. Two wickets were taken by Stoinis in his spell of four overs, and he conceded 28 runs in his spell.

“Nice to get involved with the ball, had no real plans to get Jos out that way but I just used some cricketing smarts and bowled it short into the wicket. We identified this is a difficult wicket, so we realised we don’t need a 50 off 20 balls on this surface. (On whether he will bowl more) You will have to ask the skipper that question, but fitness wise I’m ready to go. All good,” Stoinis was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation.
