The Indian cricket team is virtually unbeatable when it comes to bilateral series whether it is home or away but are is not quite the same during major world tournaments. The last time the Men in Blue won a major world tournament was in 2013 when the MS Dhoni-led team lifted the Champions Trophy.

However, since then, India managed to qualify for the finals in several world tournaments but couldn’t win the title. Meanwhile, former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Hafeez, who is currently in action in the ongoing Legends League Cricket, said that India fail to perform in big tournaments.

“Talking about the last 10-12 years, whichever country they (India) go to play in, they become the favourites. No one can beat India in a bilateral series. So far, I think their success rate has been very high but when it comes to major world tournaments they fail to perform,” he said on Sportstak.

“You cannot compare playing domestic cricket with international cricket. In the same manner, you cannot compare the pressure in playing a bilateral series with knockouts of a major tournament. We have seen in the recent past that India hasn’t been able to handle the pressure. They lost crunch matches, semifinal and even couldn’t qualify. They lost the 2017 Champions trophy. I believe it’s a pinching point for India to prove again by performing well in big event” he added.

I am positive for Pakistan: Mohammad Hafeez

The Indian team will have a chance as India will be hosting the upcoming 50-over world cup later this year. Hafeez also talked about Pakistan and said that he is positive about them because they have the most lethal bowlers in the world. He also talked about the challenges the Men in Green will face in India.

“I am positive for Pakistan because they have versatile and the most lethal bowlers in the world. They have match-winning fast bowlers. The most challenging situation for Pakistan to play in India is the pressure-taking ability. The pressure on players while playing in India is greater than that of any other country in the world. A lot will depend on how much momentum Pakistan take into the World Cup and how the dressing room atmosphere is created to deal with pressure.”
