Pakistan mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed made his debut in the ongoing second Test between Pakistan and England. He came in a replacement for the pacer, Naseem Shah, who had shoulder trouble. Meanwhile, he immediately made an impact on his debut as he picked the wicket of Zak Crawley in his first over. That was the ninth over of England’s innings.

However, for the next few overs, he was getting beaten up badly. After completing his 5.5 overs, he already had conceded 40 runs. Not to forget, Ben Duckett was dominating the home team’s bowling attack. At the end of his sixth over, Abrar managed to trap Duckett for LBW. This was the 19th over of the innings. After this, the mystery spinner took out former skipper Joe Root.

Once again, Root failed to score big in the series, even though he did a great job in the second innings of the first Test. Meanwhile, last game centurion, Harry Brook also became the victim of the debutant. Ollie Pope, who was batting on 60, tried to play a reverse sweep, only to be caught at the backward point. With these wickets, Ahmed took a five-wicket haul in the first session of the ongoing game.

Abrar Ahmed becomes the 13th Pakistani bowler to pick a fifer on debut

The mystery spinner, who made his name in the PSL season seven, became the 13th Pakistani bowler to pick a fifer on debut. The first player to do it was Arif Butt, way back in 1964 against Australia in Melbourne. Notably, he opened the batting for Pakistan in the game. After him, Mohammad Nazir did it in 1969 against New Zealand in Karachi.

After this, they had to wait till 1996 to see a bowler picking a fifer on debut for them. Shahid Nazir picked a fifer against Zimbabwe in Sheikhpura that year. After him, the likes of Mohammad Zahid, Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Sami, Yasir Arafat, Wahab Riaz, Tanvir Ahmed, Bilal Asif, and Nauman Ali have done the same.
