On 30 August 2022, Bangladesh kicked off its Asia Cup campaign against Afghanistan. Before this tournament, Bangladesh lost both the ODI and T20I series in Zimbabwe. On the other hand, Afghanistan was coming off a thumping win over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup opener. Hence, the stage was set for fans to witness a cracker of a match.

Speaking of the match, both teams locked horns in Sharjah. Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss. He opted to bat first with the hope to put up a big score. On the other side, Afghanistan went with an unchanged playing XI from their previous win over Sri Lanka.

Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh by seven wickets in their second match of the Asia Cup 2022

Bangladesh openers came out to bat. But, they failed to score big as Bangladesh lost two wickets in just four overs. Even, skipper Shakib Al Hasan and veteran wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim failed to steady the ship. Afghanistan bowlers were in full charge throughout the innings. But, Mahmudullah scored 25 runs off 27 balls, including a single boundary. Apart from him, Mosaddek Hossain scored an unbeaten 48-run off 31 balls only. He hit four boundaries and a single six throughout his innings. Still, Bangladesh managed to score only 127 runs by losing seven wickets in 20 overs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman took three wickets for 16 runs in four overs. Along with him, Rashid Khan shined again. He grabbed three wickets by conceding 22 runs in his four overs.

In reply, Afghanistan batters were struggling also. Bangladesh skipper drew the first blood when he took the wicket of Gurbaz. In the last match, Gurbaz scored 40 runs off 18 balls only. But, Bangladesh bowlers were bowling economically as Afghanistan reached only 62 runs in 13 overs after losing three wickets. But, Ibrahim Zadran (41* runs off 42 balls) and Najibullah Zadran (43* runs off 17 balls) batted brilliantly. Najibullah hit six over-boundaries and scored those runs at a strike rate of 252.94. They put up a partnership of 69 runs. Thus, Afghanistan chased down the target of 128 runs with ease with nine balls to spare.
