Amidst injury concerns, Indian T20 League franchises receives stern warning from Indian Cricket Board

On the first day of the year 2023, the Indian Cricket Board held a meeting to review the national side’s performance in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. During the meeting, one of the major discussion points was workload management. Apparently, last year, players such as Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, etc missed the World Cup. Apart from them, skipper Rohit Sharma missed the entire South Africa tour early last year due to an injury.

Meanwhile, the board has reportedly asked the Indian T20 League franchise to manage the workload of the India players. In other words, they want the franchises to not let them play all the games if their fitness isn’t up to the mark. However, one of the franchise’s officials has reportedly denied the ‘DIKTAT’ from the board. He said that the teams have been asked to send reports of player’s fitness regularly during the season

“We have not received any diktat or advisory as such from the Indian Cricket Board. We were told during the franchise meet to keep a tab on the players’ fitness during ITL. That we always do. What we understand from this is that all fitness status will now be sent to the Indian Cricket Board medical team and the NCA. We will get more clarity when we receive the official info from the board,” a franchise official told Insidesport.

Franchises may protest against the Indian Cricket Board’s directive

Meanwhile, players such as Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli, etc have been retained by their respective franchises for a heft sum. If the player will play, let’s say 10 games in a season, the teams would face losses as they have signed the players for an entire season. It will be interesting to see how this new directive goes within the Indian T20 League sides.

Players such as Pandya, Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah need to be monitored as they are injury prone. All of them have been retained by their teams.
