‘An absolute force’: Pooja Vastrakar rips through Trailblazers’ batting line-up, Supernovas win comfortably

The first match of the Women’s T20 Challenge 2022, started with the match between the Trailblazers and Supernovas. The venue for the match was the MCA Stadium in Pune.
Supernovas won the toss and their skipper Harmanpreet Kaur decided to bat first. They had a blazing start to the innings as Deandra Dottin looked aggressive from the outset. The duo put together a partnership of 50 runs in just 5 overs before Dottin (32 of 17) fell prey to an unfortunate run-out. Priya Punia (22 of 20) soon followed in the 8th over, when the team’s score was 63 runs. Harleen Deol and Harmanpreet Kaur got together at this stage and stitched a partnership of 37 runs. The partnership was broken with the fall of Deol (35 of 19) in the 12th over. After this, the Supernovas lost a bunch of wickets pretty quickly, and hence what once looked like could be a 180+ total fell short. They however managed a total of 163 runs in their 20 overs, which is the highest ever total in the history of the tournament. Harmanpreet Kaur was the highest scorer for the team with 37 runs off 29 balls. Hayley Matthews was the pick of the bowlers for Trailblazers with 3 wickets for 29 runs from her 4 overs.
In pursuit of a formidable total, the Trailblazers got a solid start. The openers Smrithi Mandhana and Hayley Matthews put together 39 runs in 5 overs. Matthews (18 of 14) was the first wicket to fall for the team dismissed by Pooja Vastrakar. Vastrakar once again proved her potency when she picked up Smrithi Mandhana (34 of 23) and Sophia Dunkley (1 of 2) in the 8th over of the innings and left the Trailblazers at 65 for 3 in 7.5 overs. After this the Trailblazers experienced an incredible collapse. They lost 7 wickets for 23 runs and the chase went completely off the track. They were ultimatley finished with 114 runs in their 20 overs. Pooja Vastrakar was the standout performer for the Supernovas picking up 4 wickets for 12 runs in her 4 overs.
