Australia is due to tour Sri Lanka in the month of June. They are scheduled to play three T20Is, five ODIs, and two Tests in the island nation. But the team has been dealt with a blow as their Head Coach Andrew McDonald has tested positive for COVID. He will not be able to travel with the team to Sri Lanka.

Notably, the Australian team will be leaving for the island nation on Wednesday. While McDonald will remain in Melbourne under isolation for seven days. As per reports by cricket.com.au, Australia’s Assistant Coach Michael Di Venuto will be taking up the responsibility in McDonald’s absence. The head coach will join the team in Colombo ahead of the second T20. The all-format series will begin on June 7.

Notably, Australia will be seeing the T20 series against Sri Lanka as a preparation for their T20 World Cup 2022, where they will be looking to defend the title. All eyes will naturally be on Aaron Finch, the white-ball captain of Australia. Fans and experts will be keeping an eye on how Finch leads his team while being out of form with the bat himself.  Recently, Finch spoke up on his current lean patch.

“When you’re worried about the ball swinging back in your front pad, you can ten to open up which then has a bit of flow-on-effect. I just lost the ability to transfer my weight back through the ball but squaring up my technique on my hips and shoulder and feet,”- quoting Finch as reported by India today.

“I’ve been through that plenty of times in my career. At times, you go through stages where you get a heap of runs in hurry and then go through some lean patches,”- Finch added.

Speaking of Finch’s performance, he was recently a part of the Kolkata team in the Indian T20 League 2022. He played 5 matches for the team and just scored 86 runs in them at an average of 17.20. Out of these 86 runs 58 came in one inning. Thus, he failed to give solid starts to his team in most of the matches. Finch will be looking to revive his form in the series against Sri Lanka.
