‘Baat to sahi he’ – Fans react as Ravichandran Ashwin calls for moving Asia Cup to Sri Lanka

Ever since Jay Shah, the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), revealed shifting the Asia Cup 2023 from Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have been strong in their stand to boycott the upcoming 50-over World Cup scheduled to take place in India. With things getting out of hand in the recent ACC meeting, the council is planning to move the tournament to a neutral venue, which could probably be the United Arab Emirates. 

Opening up on the same, Ravichandran Ashwin, the veteran Indian spinner, said that it would be better if the Asia Cup gets shifted to Sri Lanka, given that it is UAE which is hosting the tournament more often than not. For the unversed, former PCB chief Ramiz Raja was stern in his opinion about boycotting the multinational tournament in 2023, if the Indian team failed to make it to Pakistan. 

“I’ll be pleased if the Asia Cup is moved to Sri Lanka. Many tournaments have taken place in Dubai,” Ashwin was quoted as saying about the upcoming Asia Cup. It remains to be seen if the ACC would come up with an official statement on the same, given that things have not been good despite Najam Sethi taking over as the chief of the PCB. 

Will ongoing rift between PCB and Indian cricket board be sorted?

It remains to be seen if the Asia Cup would happen at all, given that there have been concerns regarding the rift between the PCB and the Indian cricket board. If at all the tournament gets shifted to a neutral venue, it remains to be seen if the PCB chief Sethi would prevent the Men in Green from making it to India for the multinational tournament. 

That being said, Ashwin is bracing hard for the series against Australia and with Test being his forte, his contribution with the ball would be pivotal for the team’s success. Given that Ashwin has a few Test centuries to his name, his contribution with the bat lower down the order would come as a blessing for the Rohit Sharma-led team.
