Babar Azam is considered one of the modern greats. He has been outstanding in his career till now in all the formats of the game. Recently the Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik made a big statement on the Pakistani skipper. Karthik appreciated Azam’s excellent batting exploits and felt that he will soon make it to the elite list of batters of all time.

Speaking of Azam’s career, he has played 40 Tests, 86 ODIs, and 74 T20Is for Pakistan in his career so far. He has scored a total of 9800 international runs in all formats. Azam is one of those rare batters who averages 40+ across formats. In ODIs, he has an excellent average of 59.18, while it is 45.98 and 45.52 in Tests and T20Is respectively. He is currently the number one batter in both T20Is and ODIs.

During a conversation with the press, Babar Azam was asked about the comments made by Dinesh Karthik on him. He spoke about the factors that are required to be the number one batter in all formats of the game and to last in the position for an extended period of time.

“Definitely, as a player, it’s a dream to become the No.1 in all formats, and for that, you have to focus and put in hard work. It’s not like if you are the top player in 1 or 2 formats, you go easy. If you are to become No.1 in all three, you have to keep yourself fit and on track. There is back-to-back cricket and the gap is less. For that, you need to be extra fit. It’s something I am preparing for. It’s going well in white-ball and hopefully, I will be able to do well in Tests too,”- said Babar during the press conference.

Speaking about Dinesh Karthik’s comments on Babar Azam, he said – “Babar is a high-quality player who is at the peak of his batting prowess and he has got some Test matches coming up. He has been phenomenal in all three formats of the game and he has done well in different batting positions too.”
