On 27 July 2022, India met West Indies for the third match of the ODI series. India already bagged the series after winning the first two matches. However, they did not do anything wrong in the third one also as India managed to whitewash the Caribbeans at their home by a 3-0 margin. India won by 119 runs in that rain-affected game.

West Indies failed to chase down the target of 257 runs in 35 overs. Shubman Gill was the player of the match as he scored an unbeaten 98* runs. However, a hilarious incident happened when the Bangalore franchise of the Indian T20 League wrongly congratulated Gill on his maiden century on Twitter.

Shubman Gill also won the player of the series award

Speaking of this incident, Shubman Gill was batting on 98* runs. Then, this franchise tweeted Gill’s candid picture from the game. In the caption, they wrote: “Shubman Gill brings up his maiden international century, and the timing of the knock couldn’t have been more perfect. Take a bow, champ. #PlayBold #WIvIND #TeamIndia,”

But, suddenly, the rain came and India’s innings got stopped there. Hence, the rain robbed Gill of his maiden century by only two runs. Due to that, this franchise deleted the tweet later. But, the post went viral and it got surfaced quickly by fans on Twitter. Speaking of the match, India won the toss and elected to bat first.

Indian openers, Shubman Gill and Skipper, Shikhar Dhawan started brilliantly with a 113 runs partnership at the top. Shubman Gill continued his good form as he scored 98* runs off 98 balls, including seven fours and two sixes. Rain affected the game several times as India played 36 overs only. They scored 225 runs by losing three wickets. Due to the DL Method, West Indies got a target of 257 runs in 35 overs. But, the host failed miserably as they got bundled out for 137 runs in 26 overs only. Along with the player of the match award, Gill also became the player of the series by scoring 205 runs in three matches.
