In the 51st match of the Indian Premier League 2023, Gujarat Titans faced Lucknow Super Giants at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Riding on Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill’s amazing batting performances, GT posted a hefty total of 227/2 in 20 overs. On the batting-friendly wicket, Saha and Gill added 142 runs for the opening wicket in just 12.3 overs.
Earlier, after winning the toss, LSG skipper Krunal Pandya opted to bowl first on the batting-friendly wicket. His decision didn’t go well with the team as GT openers Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha added 142 runs for the first wicket.
Saha blazed his way to 81 runs off 43 balls with the help of four sixes and 10 boundaries. He missed out on a well-deserved century as he was dismissed by Avesh Khan.
After his dismissal, skipper Hardik Pandya joined Gill in the middle. He, along with Gill, added 42 runs for the second wicket before getting dismissed by Mohsin Khan. Hardik scored 25 runs off 15 balls with the help of a boundary and two sixes.
Gill remained unbeaten on 94 runs off 51 balls with seven wickets and two boundaries.
“Well played Wriddhi”, Says Virat Kohli
After his amazing batting performance, former India skipper Virat Kohli took on social media to praise the wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha. Kohli posted a picture of Saha and said, “Well Played Wriddhi.”
Notably, his amazing performance in the ongoing tournament may earn him a national call as LSG skipper KL Rahul has been ruled out of the World Test Championship. Saha can replace him in the prestigious game as India are set to face Australia in the final of the Test Championship. The match is set to be commenced at the Oval Cricket Ground in London on June 7.
Notably, Rahul got injured during RCB vs LSG encounter after which he revealed that he will have to undergo surgery. He also revealed that he will miss the ongoing Indian Premier League and the upcoming World Test Championship final.
