Indian and Rajasthan Royals leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who was the purple cap holder in IPL 2022, is having another great season with the ball in 2023 as he picked 11 wickets from 6 matches so far. Chahal was picked by RR in the 2022 auction for INR 6.50 crore after he was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore. Recently in an interview, Chahal praised RR skipper Sanju Samson and also compared him with the former India captain MS Dhoni.

Chahal has played under Virat Kohli when he was a part of from 2014 to 2021. He was a pivotal player in the franchise throughout the years. However, RCB still released him before the preceding season, and RR picked him in the auction which turned out to be a profitable deal for the franchise. The 32-year-old picked 27 wickets from 16 matches and played a major role for RR to get into the finals for the first time after 2008. However, they lost the final to Gujarat Titans.

‘He (Samson) is very calm and chill’ – Chahal

In his latest latet interview with Humans of Bombay, Chahal said that Samson provided him with the freedom he required and also credited the RR skipper for his growth as a bowler in a past year.

“I think, all three captains whom I have played under, I have gotten that liberty that a bowler requires, whether its Mahi bhai, Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma. So yeah, that’s the one thing I have gotten,” said Chahal.

“In IPL, Sanju Samson is definitely my favourite. I feel like he is literally very similar to Mahi bhai as like him, he is very calm and chill. The 10 per cent or whatever growth I have had as a bowler in the last year, it is all because of Sanju. He told me, ‘you have four overs, bowl whatever you want to, you are free from my side,” he further added

Notably, Chahal’s RR will take on Kohli’s RCB for match number 32 of the season at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on April 23rd. RR are, currently, standing at the top position, while RCB are in the sixth position. Both teams will be looking to go ahead in the tournament with a win.
