India all-rounder Washington Sundar has been named as the replacement for injured Deepak Chahar who has been ruled out. The latter suffered back stiffness after the third T20I between India and South Africa. He played the game and the Men In blue went on to lose the game. He missed the first ODI as well.

With only a day left in the second ODI, the Indian Cricket Board has included Sundar for the rest of the series. India will play the must-win second game of the series in Ranchi on October 9. The home team needs to win the game in order to keep the series alive. Meanwhile, talking about Chahar, he is part of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 squad as a reserve player. It will be interesting to see if he can recover before the tournament.

Currently, the board has said in a statement that the right-arm swing bowler will head to NCA. The medical team will be monitoring the Agra-born player.

Washington Sundar is making his comeback from injury

The all-rounder has suffered from injuries regularly since August 2021. During that time, he sustained a finger injury in a First-Class game. A few months later, he started playing for his state, Tamil Nadu to get some game time. The left-hander made his comeback in the ODI series against the West Indies at home in February this year.

However, after the series, he was ruled out of the T20Is against the same opposition. Sundar then made his comeback in the Indian T20 League 2022 and played for Hyderabad. During the season, he injured his finger once again and was ruled out. The 23-year-old was then named in the ODI squad for the Zimbabwe series. However, he got injured during the Royal London One Day Cup which ruled him out of the Zimbabwe series. It will be interesting to see if he can keep himself away from injuries and travel to Australia as a reserve.
