India medium-pacer Deepak Chahar has already been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against South Africa. He didn’t play the first ODI as he twisted his ankle ahead of the game. Notably, Chahar is also part of the 20-20 World Cup 2022 reserves squad. Now, it seems like the Agra-born player might miss out on the World Cup squad once again. Last year as well, he wasn’t named in the 20-20 World Cup squad.

Reports suggest that players such as Mukesh Choudhary and Chetan Sakariya might be named as cover for Chahar. With this, the Indian team management’s concerns have become deeper. Recently, lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the showpiece event due to a back injury. Not to forget, the death bowling of the Men In Blue has been a concern in the recent past.

Players get injured due to too much cricket: Ravi Shastri

Recently, former India head coach Ravi Shastri said that too much of cricket is creating room for injuries. However, he also maintained that there is nothing a player can do about the injuries. The 1983 World Cup winner added that Jasprit Bumrah’s injury is an opportunity to unearth a new chanpion.

“There’s so much cricket is being played, and people get injured. Bumrah is injured, but it’s an opportunity for somebody else. There is nothing you can do with injury,” former India coach Ravi Shastri was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“I think we have got enough strength and we have a good team. I have always believed if you make it to the semi-finals, it could be anyone’s tournament. The endeavour would be to start well, get to the semis, and then you have got enough strength to probably win the [World] Cup, for all you know.

Bumrah not being there, Jadeja not being there – it hampers the side – but it’s an opportunity to unearth a new champion,” he further stated.

India will kick off their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on October 23 in Melbourne.
