Deepak Chahar from Chennai and Kolkata’s Rasikh Salam were recently ruled out of the remainder of the Indian T20 League due to injuries. Injuries are part and parcel of a sportsperson’s life and can be costly for the players as well as the team. Many players bag lucrative Indian T20 League but sometimes injuries cut short their tournament or on occasions, doesn’t allow them to feature in a single game. In that case, do the players get paid?

According to the rules, the Board For Control Of Cricket In India (BCCI) doesn’t pay the players if they don’t play the entire season and are not contracted under the BCCI. The player will be replaced by another player altogether. On the other hand, an Indian player, who is contracted under the BCCI, will get paid through the ‘Players Insurance’. In this scenario, the entire fees of the players is paid by the board and not by the franchises. The policy came into effect ahead of the 2011 season.

Do the franchises have the insurance from the board?

As discussed above, the board has insurance for their contracted players. Apart from this, the Indian T20 League franchises have their own insurance schemes for the players of their squad. In case the player is contracted under the board and ruled out in the middle of the season, half of the fees is paid by the board and the other half is paid by the franchises.

Do the non-contracted players get paid if they are ruled out in the middle of the season?

The non-contracted or the overseas player is paid on the number of matches he played for the franchise. Meanwhile, if a player pulls out of the tournament citing personal reasons, then won’t be paid by the board or franchise.
