After having an excellent three-match ODI series against West Indies earlier this week, Shreyas Iyer was looking to replicate that form in the shortest format of the game. However, in three T20I matches, he still failed to do the same despite batting at the number three position. In the ODI series, he scored 161 runs in three matches, at an average of 53.66.

But, in three T20Is so far, he managed to score only 34 runs in three matches for India. In the third match on 2 August 2022, he got another chance to prove himself. But, he scored only 24 runs at a strike rate of 88.88. He tried to stitch a solid partnership with Suryakumar Yadav. But again after having a start, he failed to convert that into a big score.

Shreyas Iyer scored 24 runs off 27 balls in the third T20I against West Indies

Speaking of the match, India won the toss and opted for fielding first. West Indies batters performed well as they put up a score of 164 runs by losing five wickets. Kyle Mayers scored 73 runs off 50 balls. In reply, Rohit Sharma got retired hurt from a back spasm problem. Hence, Shreyas Iyer came out to bat at the number three position. But, he failed to score big again as he got out for 24 runs. However, Suryakumar Yadav’s 76 runs and Rishabh Pant’s 33* runs ensured India’s victory over West Indies in the match.

Thus, India is now leading this series 2-1 with two more matches to go. But, time is running out for Shreyas Iyer ahead of the T20 World Cup later this year. Despite having so many failures in recent times, the India Team management has shown faith in him. However, he failed to repay with some consistent performances so far. But fans have started to show their support for Deepak Hooda or Sanju Samson instead of Iyer. Even former cricketers like Kris Srikkanth have also shown support for other players instead of him in the playing XI.

Here is how fans have reacted to another batting failure of Shreyas Iyer in the third T20I:
