Jason Roy is currently busy with his National teammates as England is playing a three-match ODI series against the Netherlands. On 19 June 2022, England defeated the Dutch by six wickets with ease as they took an unassailable lead over them in the series. However, after scoring just one run in the series opener, England opener Jason Roy scored 73 runs off 60 balls at a strike rate of 121.66.

In the first ODI, England scored a record-breaking 498 runs against them. But, now Jason had come up with his ‘dark times’ during the Pakistan T20 League last year. It was the reason for which he took a short break from cricket including withdrawing his name from the Indian T20 League 2022.

“Things mentally weren’t right with me” – Jason Roy

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said that mentally, he was not right and that led him to take that much-needed break from cricket. He said: “Things mentally weren’t right with me at the Pakistan T20 League. I was in a weird place because I was playing good cricket but I wasn’t enjoying myself, I wasn’t happy and it was just a dark time. It was just a good two months to come home and live a normal life for a bit after a tough couple of years.”

Roy also came up about the struggle of being in a Bio-Bubble by staying away from his newborn baby. “(There were) a lot of months away. Over 50 days of hotel quarantine the year before and then having a child in January and having to spend time away from him was just a bit too much. I missed the Indian T20 League to spend some time at home and it has refreshed my mind and body, and I recognized where I was at with a lot of things,” Roy added.

The English batter also shared his joy as he played his 100th ODI match for England during this second match of the series. “To be involved with a team like this for 100 games is ridiculous. It’s an incredible feeling. It kind of crept up. The hundred feels very special. At least the 100th game was better than my first innings! But it’s an incredible feeling – whether I got 70 or nought here, it would have been a special day. I couldn’t be prouder. It’s an incredible feeling,” Roy concluded.
