On the first day of the new year, the Indian Cricket Board conducted a meeting to prepare a roadmap for the 2023 World Cup. During the meeting, some major decisions were taken by the board. One of them was introducing DEXA Test and bringing back Yo-Yo Tests. Fans may remember the latter being the selection criterion for players across formats during Virat Kohli’s captaincy and Ravi Shastri being the head coach.

However, the Yo-Yo Test went for a toss during COVID-19 as the players used to stay in the strict bio-bubbles. This has proved to be a big blunder as a lot of players have struggled with fitness after playing only one or two games for India. A lot of players got injured and it ultimately cost the team combination before the 20-20 World Cup 2022. Also, the NCA was accused of giving fitness certificates without proper procedure.

Now, the Yo-Yo Test has returned as the threat of the disease is pretty much neutralized. Now, the NCA has been tasked to take care of India players’ workload from the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League. Meanwhile, the readers are quite confused about the newly-introduced DEXA Test. The test wasn’t part of the players’ fitness Test before.

What is DEXA Test after all?

The full form of DEXA is Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry. It is an imaging test that measures bone density. This test is conducted to measure bone strength and can also provide information about a potential fracture in the bone.

The scan produces two types of beans — high energy and low energy. Both beams pass through the bone and the number of X-rays emitted is measured to find the bone density.
