FIFA decided to ban the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect. This decision hit the Indian Football community with a jolt. Through a media release, FIFA confirmed the news. Meanwhile, it also said the decision has been taken of undue influence from third parties. 15 August 2022 is now a shameful day in the history of Indian football as AIFF gets banned for the first time in their 85 years of history.

However, this suspension stripped India from hosting any major tournaments. Now, India will not have the right to organize the Under-17 Women’s World Cup, scheduled for October. Meanwhile, FIFA is still in constant contact with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in India. It might help in gaining a positive outcome.

Here is the shared Media Release by FIFA:

“The Bureau of the FIFA Council has unanimously decided to suspend AIFF with immediate effect” – FIFA Statement

Speaking of the shared statement, they said that this ban is due to undue influence from third parties. It also constitutes a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes. The statement said: “The Bureau of the FIFA Council has unanimously decided to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect due to undue influence from third parties, which constitutes a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes,”

FIFA also cleared that this ban will be lifted. For that, the Indian Football administration needs to have the full right to handle the daily affairs. “The suspension will be lifted once an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee has been repealed and the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs.”

“FIFA is in constant constructive contact with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in India and is hopeful that a positive outcome to the case may still be achieved.” the statement concluded. Meanwhile, new elections are going to happen on 28 August 2022. Poll processes already began on 13 August 2022 and the Committee of Administrators (CoA) prepared the timeline.
