SMAT 2022: Fight ensues between Ambati Rayudu and Sheldon Jackson during the group fixture

The Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament 2022 has kicked off before the Indian Premier League 2022 auction would go live. Amidst all the hype, things turned ugly on the second matchday of the domestic T20 tournament. On the second day, Baroda were playing Saurashtra and a heated debate ensued between Ambati Rayudu and Sheldon Jackson. The two veterans of the Indian domestic circuit were involved in a heated clash during the game.
After winning the toss, Saurashtra invited Baroda to bat first. Mitesh Patel and Vishnu Solanki scored half-centuries to help Baroda post a competitive total at Holkar Stadium. Batting first, Baroda posted 175 for the loss of four wickets. The incident occurred when Saurashtra were chasing a total of 176 from 120 deliveries.
Saurashtra had lost two early wickets while chasing the competitive total. Sheldon Jackson came onto the pitch for the team while they were struggling at 35/2. The player indulged in an ugly altercation with Ambati Rayudu. Ambati Rayudu showed displeasure over Sheldon Jackson while fielding at the cover region. The batsman marched towards Ambati Rayudu, triggering the tension between players.

However, Krunal Pandya and two umpires intervened to douse the fire. The issue was de-escalated as soon as the player returned to the crease. However, Sheldon Jackson’s innings did not last long as Baroda dismissed the player for a personal score of 17 (16 deliveries).
Samarth Vyas scored 97 runs from 52 balls to take the team towards victory. Chirag Jani and Jay Gohill took the team over the line with two deliveries and four wickets to spare. Baroda will play Gujarat in their next game whereas Saurashtra will face Nagaland on Friday.
