Final Squad List Of Teams For The Lanka Premier League 2022

The third edition of the Lanka Premier League is set to begin on 31st July 2022 as the participating players got drafted on 5 July 2022. A total number of 353 players got drafted among them 173 were Sri Lankans while 180 were from other International countries. Eight teams like Colombo Stars, Jaffna Kings, Galle Gladiators, Kandy Falcons, and Dambulla Giants picked up players under several categories.

The draft event happened in an overall 20 rounds under different heads like the ‘International Ruby,’ ‘International Sapphire,’ ‘International Diamond ‘A’ and ‘B,’ and ‘International Platinum’, a ‘Gold Round’ for Sri Lanka will focus on choosing the country’s youthful potential, below U23, with two players each squad.

T20 specialists emerged as the highest-priced international players at the draft

Speaking about the draft, T20 specialists like Carlos Brathwaite, Dwaine Pretorius, and Imad Wasim emerged as the highest-priced international players. Kandy Warriors picked up Carlos Braithwaite while the South African Dwayne Pretorius will join the Colombo Stars. Galle Gladiators roped in the Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim.

Apart from these three, Australian Darcy Short got drafted to Dambulla Giants while the West Indies opener, Evin Lewis went to the two-time defending champions Jaffna Kings. Dambulla Giants made a steal as they bought Tim Seifert and Sheldon Cottrell for $25,000 and $15,000, respectively.

Jaffna Kings failed to retain the service of Hasaranga as he went to Kandy Falcons. He has been this tournament’s leading wicket-taker so far. Some International Sri Lankan players like Dasun Shanala, Angelo Mathews, and Thisara Perera got drafted to Dambulla Giants, Colombo Stars, and Jaffna Kings respectively.

However, the tournament will kick off on 31st July 2022 as the final is scheduled for 21st August 2022. All the matches will be played in Colombo and Hambantota only.
