In the ongoing first Test match between Pakistan and England, the Three Lions are absolutely tearing apart Pakistan’s bowling. At the time of writing, the visitors have crossed the 500-run mark. Notably, this is not something that happens every day. Remember the Australia vs West Indies in which the Aussies amassed 598 runs after batting for a little less than two days?

Meanwhile, the ongoing Pakistan vs England game isn’t the only game that has been such high scoring on the first day. In more than 150 years of the history of Test cricket, there have been numerous instances of teams scoring more than 400 on Day One. However, we have only filtered five such instances. In this listicle, we will discuss such incidents and some might brush the reader’s memory.

Fans might remember this game as the last game of Brendon McCullum as a player. Ahead of this series, the now-head coach of the England Test team scored the fastest Test hundred, a record that is still intact. His innings helped the team score 370 all-out on the first day.

In reply, the Kangaroos scored 57/1 at stumps. This makes for 427 runs on Day One of the game. Notably, the home team lost the game by seven wickets.
