India and England are all set to lock horns with each other in the rescheduled fifth Test match in Birmingham, starting from 1st July 2022. The fifth Test was earlier scheduled to be played in September last year.
However, due to Covid-19 cases emerging in the Indian camp, the Test match was postponed. India are currently leading the series by a 2-1 margin and would be keen to win the final Test as well. England, though, aren’t going to give up too easily. They are in fine form and certainly not the same side that played against India last time around.
A lot has changed for both teams in the last nine months in both Indian as well as England team. In this article, we take a look at five things that have changed since the last Test match between England and India.
- Joe Root and Virat Kohli are no longer captains
During the 2021 series, Joe Root and Virat Kohli were the captains of the England and Indian team respectively. Root was, in fact, the highest run-scorer in the series, amassing 564 runs at an average of 94. However, both of them are no longer the captain of their respective teams in the longest format of the game.
Virat Kohli stepped from Test captaincy, following the Test series in South Africa. Joe Root also stepped down from the leadership role after England suffered humiliating series defeat in Ashes and against West Indies.
