The whole world was left in shock as England’s prime all-rounder, Ben Stokes announced his retirement from ODI cricket on Twitter on 18 July 2022. He announced that he will play his last 50-over format game for England against South Africa on 19 July 2022 at Durham’s Riverside ground. Till now, he scored 2919 runs and grabbed 74 wickets in his ODI career. 

This announcement came out of now where for all cricket fans as he gave no signs of anything in previous matches or series. Speaking about this hard decision of his career, he said that playing in three formats of the game has become a lot of toll on his body. Hence he wanted to focus on the Test and T20I format completely by quitting this 50-over format. During his overall ODI career of 104 matches, he came up with some fantastic moments for England so far and those are:

It was the series opener of the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh in Mirpur when Ben Stokes notched up his maiden ODI hundred for England. His knock helped England to put up a mammoth score of 309 runs in 50 overs by losing eight wickets.

In reply, Bangladesh failed to chase it down as they scored only 288 runs. England pacer, Jake Ball made his ODI debut in that match and he came up with record figures of 5 for 51. It helped England to win that match by 21 runs and eventually, they won the series also at a margin of 2-1.
