MS Dhoni has been a pillar for the Chennai franchise in the history of the Indian T20 League. Under his leadership, the team has managed to win several titles. Even, though he has managed to give platforms to many youngsters during his tenure to showcase their talents on that big stage.

Now, on 12 September 2022, Ishwar Pandey announced his retirement from all formats of the game. He was a part of that franchise when Dhoni was captain. However, he did not play for India. But, he got a call-up in 2014 for a tour of New Zealand. Hence, this fast bowler blamed MS Dhoni for not showing more faith in him during that time. Otherwise, he could have a completely different career.

“If MS Dhoni had given a chance, my career would have been different.” – Ishwar Pandey

Speaking on the Dainik Jagran, Pandey said: “If Dhoni had given a chance, my career would have been different. Then I was 23-24 years old and my fitness was also very good. Had Dhoni bhai given me a chance and I would have done well for the country, my career would have been different for sure.”

He also added that he was not so fortunate to represent the country in a match. But, whatever moments he spent with the Indian team were quite priceless for him. Along with it, he also expressed his joy in representing the Chennai franchise for two years by thanking Dhoni and head coach Fleming.

“Though I was not fortunate enough to play a game for my country, still to be a part of the Indian team will always be the most special memory of my life,” Pandey wrote in his retirement post on Instagram. “I would like to thank the Pune and the Chennai franchises for further selecting me. To be a part of the Chennai team and to play the Indian T20 League finals and win the Champions League was special. I absolutely loved my time playing for the Chennai team for 2 years under the guidance of MSD and Stephen Fleming.” Ishwar Pandey concluded.
