Joe Root, Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson are considered the top batters of modern cricket. They are considered the ‘fab four’ of international cricket.

As per as records and cricketing skills are concerned there is not much difference between these top-class batters. But the former Indian wicket-keeper, Saba Karim has a different opinion about the competition among these four batters. He reckons that Joe Root has left his competitors far behind in the last couple of years.

Notable, Root scored an unbeaten 115 in the fourth innings of the Lord’s Test between England and New Zealand. Root’s exploits helped his team chase down a target of 277 runs and take a 1-0 lead in the series.

In a recent conversation on India News, Saba Karim consented that Root has marched way ahead of his competitors in the last couple of years. “He has gone far ahead. Joe Root has left the other three batters far behind in the last las two years. Whether we talk about consistency, technique or temperament, in all these aspects Joe Root is above everyone at the moment,”- said Saba.

In his Test career, Root has scored 2192 at an average of 56.20 in 21 Tests, which he has played since the beginning of 2021. Barring an average Ashes series, Root has been prolific everywhere he played during the period.

Saba also pointed out that Joe Root has been a lone warrior for England in the last couple of years. He said – “And we are not discussing one more thing, that if we see England’s batting, other than Root, we are not seeing any other name coming to the forefront. It means Joe Root has single-handedly scored runs and hit centuries, he has not got any support from the other end.”

Comparing Root with his competitors, Saba stated that others have had enough support, which the English batter lacked. He hence lauded Root for scoring runs across the globe.
