India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant had a forgettable time with the bat during the white-ball series against New Zealand. In the T20I series, he could only manage 17 runs in two games. However, he was expected to do better in the ODIs as he had hit his maiden hundred n the format in July this year. Also, this was his last game in the 50-over format before this series.

However, he was ‘infected’ by low scores in T20Is and that carried into the ODIs. In the series, the Delhi player could only manage 25 runs in two innings. These performances have attracted immense criticism for him. It doubles up after the fact that the former India U19 player was preferred over ‘in-form Sanju Samson, who has done well in the limited opportunities this year.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan cricket Danish Kaneria has ruthlessly bashed Pant. The former went on to say that the wicketkeeper batter is not a white-ball player. Kaneria pointed out that Pant has been tried at every batting position but to no avail. The former leggie also pointed out the lack of opportunities for Samson.

“India should accept the fact that Rishabh Pant is not a white-ball cricketer. They have tried him at every position in the order, just so that he can score runs. But what about Sanju Samson? Did he do anything wrong by scoring 36 runs?,” Kaneria said on his Youtube channel. Rajasthan skipper Sanju Samson featured in only one match in the entire New Zealand tour.

Sanju Samson is being treated like an average player: Danish Kaneria

The Karachiite didn’t mince words. He further said that the constant ignoring can be demoralizing for Samson and looks like he is an average player.

“From fans to former players, everyone has expressed displeasure over this. All this is very demoralizing for Sanju Samson, as he is being treated like an average cricketer,” Kaneria added.
