Gautam Gambhir will be remembered by Indian cricket fans for his match-winning knock in the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka. He Switched his career to politics after hanging up the boots. However, he still continues to associate himself with the game. Gambhir keeps himself associated with the Indian T20 League in some way or the other. He was recently seen playing the role of mentor for the Lucknow franchise in the Indian T20 League 2022.

Currently, Gambhir is an MP from the Bharatiya Janata Party for the East Delhi Constituency. As a politician, he is known for the welfare works that he is constantly associated with. He has set up a kitchen called ‘Jan Rasoi’, where a meal is offered for Re.1. He has also set up a library in the area.

Recently in a media conference held on the occasion of the BJP’s 8 years in power, Gambhir gave a befitting reply when asked about his stints in the Indian T20 League. The former Indian batter stated that he needs to take up the jobs in order to carry on his welfare work for the poor.

“Why I commentate in ITL or work in it is because I spend INR 25 lakh every month to feed 5000 people. This translates to roughly Rs. 2.75 crores per year. I’ve also spent INR 25 Lakhs to build a library. I spend all of this money from my own pocket and not from the MPLAD fund. The MPLAD fund doesn’t run my kitchen or other things that I do. I don’t have a tree in my house from where I can pluck money either,”- said Gambhir.

“Only because I work, am I able to feed those 5000 people or establish that library. I have no shame in saying that I do commentary and work in the ITL. All of this that I do has an ultimate goal,”- Gambhir added during the media conference.
