 Here Are All The Rules Of ‘The Hundred’ Tournament

In 2021, the English Cricket Board introduced the new tournament named ‘The Hundred’. According to them, this shorter version of the game can attract a younger and more ethnically diverse audience to the game. Andrew Strauss, former director of England cricket, said: “The idea behind The Hundred is to bring mums and kids during the summer holidays,”

However, they planned to kick-start this competition in 2020. But, the pandemic delayed it, and then, they inaugurated it in 2021. Eight teams of both men’s and women’s take participation in this tournament. Meanwhile, some interesting rules are there in this tournament to make cricket more exciting for fans.

Here are the rules of ‘The Hundred’ tournament

Every team gets 100 balls each per innings. Whoever scores the most runs wins. After 10 balls, the fielding side can change sides. As per the captain’s decision, bowlers can deliver either five or 10 balls. Each bowler can bowl a maximum of 20 balls per match.

Along with all these, Each bowling side gets a strategic timeout of up to two minutes. Coaches have the right to go out in the field to discuss tactics with their players mid-match. Each team will get a 25-ball powerplay. During the powerplay, two fielders can remain outside of the initial 30-yard circle. Speaking of the match length, a match of The Hundred will last two and a half hours.

Meanwhile, before the start of this tournament, some protest was ongoing to oppose it. But, England’s Board chairman Harrison came out to defend the situation. He said: “The 100 is a really good way of protecting everything that we are serious about. It’s about protecting Test match cricket, it’s about protecting four-day Championship cricket, it’s about getting kids to play more cricket at school. This is engaging at a different level with a completely new community in this country and that is something we should embrace and celebrate.” Now, the second edition of this tournament is going on from 3 August 2022.
