After winning the home T20I series against the Aussies, India locked horns with South Africa for another three-match T20I series at home. On 28 September 2022, India took on the Proteas in the first match of the series in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. However, India were looking to continue their winning momentum ahead of the 20-20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah made a comeback in the last series against Australia from his back injury. So, fans were expecting to see him in action again in this series. But, before the start of the match, the Indian Cricket Board said that Bumrah will not play the match as he felt back pain during India’s practice session on 27 September.
Here is the tweet:
🚨 UPDATE 🚨
— BCCI (@BCCI) September 28, 2022
Jasprit Bumrah took only one wicket in two matches against Australia in the last T20I series
Speaking of the tweet, the Indian Cricket Board wrote: “UPDATE Jasprit Bumrah complained of back pain during India’s practice session on Tuesday. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him. He is ruled out of the first #INDvSA T20I. #TeamIndia.”
Hence, this news came out as a concern for Rohit Sharma and his men ahead of the World Cup. In the upcoming mega event, Bumrah’s fitness will be crucial for the Men in Blue. However, in the recently concluded Australi series, he only took one wicket. Bumrah did not play the first match. Then, in the next two matches, he made the comeback for India.
In two matches, Bumrah conceded 73 runs in six overs, at an economy of 12.16. Therefore, this South Africa series could have been a great platform for him ahead of the World Cup. Speaking of the match, India won the toss and Rohit Sharma asked the Proteas to bat first. As Bumrah and Bhuvneshwat=r Kumar were not there, they went with Deepak Chahar and Arshdeep Singh. Meanwhile, they did not disappoint the Indian fans as they took four wickets of the Proteas in the first two overs only. Deepak Chahar took one while Arshdeep managed to take three wickets in one over.
