Former Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev has urged current captain Rohit Sharma to improve his fitness, stating that he looks overweight on TV. Despite praising Rohit’s batting skills, Kapil raised concerns over the 35-year-old’s weight and advised him to work on his fitness, especially since he is the captain of the Indian cricket team.

“It is very important (to be fit). More so for a captain. It’s a shame if you are not fit. Rohit needs to put some hard work on it. He is a great batter but when you talk about his fitness, he looks a bit overweight, at least on TV. Yes, it’s different when you look at someone on TV and then in real life. But from whatever I see, Rohit is a great player and a great captain, but he needs to get fit. Look at Virat, whenever you see him, you say, ‘that’s some fitness!’,” Kapil said during an interaction on ABP News.

The Indian captain is doing well on the field

Rohit Sharma recently became the first Indian to score international centuries in all three formats as captain, achieving the feat after scoring 120 against Australia in the first Test in Nagpur. However, in the second Test, Rohit scored only 32 and 31 in the two innings.

India has retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy after taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the four-match series. The team won the first Test by an innings and 132 runs and followed it up with a six-wicket win in the second Test last week. The third Test will be played at the Holkar Stadium in Indore from March 1.

While Rohit Sharma has not yet commented on Kapil Dev’s advice, it is important to note that fitness is a crucial aspect of professional cricket, especially for captains who have to lead by example. Virat Kohli, who is widely considered one of the fittest cricketers in the world, has been a role model for many young Indian players, and his fitness has helped him perform consistently at the highest level.

Kapil Dev’s concerns over Rohit Sharma’s fitness highlight the importance of physical fitness in cricket. While Rohit has had a stellar career so far, improving his fitness could help him become an even better player and lead India to more victories.
