India’s golden boy, Neeraj Chopra is the favourite contender to win a gold medal in the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022. This multi-event tournament is going to start on 28 July in Birmingham, England. However, a huge setback is on the cards for India as Neeraj Chopra is set to miss this mega event after picking up a groin injury at the WAC Finals.

Earlier this week, he created another history by winning the silver medal at the World Athletics Championships Final. However, during his winning effort, he felt some issue in his groin. That injury scare might lead him to miss this huge event in England.

Here is a tweet:

Neeraj Chopra has been advised to take one month’s rest for recovery

During the finals of the World’s Athletics Championships, he started badly as his throws were nowhere near to his level best. However, he managed a throw of 88.39m in his fourth attempt and that ensured him that historic silver medal.

After the finals, he spoke to ESPN and opened up on an injury scare. Chopra said that he felt something in his groin while delivering that fourth attempt. It also affected his remaining two throws after that. “I will know by morning how it feels… if it’s something to worry about,” Chopra concluded. Now, on 26 July 2022, the IOA General Secretary Rajeev Mehta said that he will miss this upcoming mega event for India as he is not 100% fit. He said: “Neeraj Chopra will miss the Commonwealth Games as his fitness is not 100%,”

After winning the gold medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020, Neeraj Chopra managed to win medals in every tournament he participate in so far. Hence, India had high hopes for him again in this event. Now, as he is not going to be part of this event, DP Manu and Rohit Yadav will represent India in Javelin Throw. As per reports, Neeraj Chopra himself has confirmed the news of his unavailability and that he needs a month’s rest.
