In January next year, the India Cricket Team will see through some bold changes in the team. As reported, the first change will be the leadership, i.e Rohit Sharma might be replaced as captain of the team. At the time, KL Rahul is the vice-captain of the team. However, he might not the captaincy given his tendency to ‘overthink’ and take too much pressure on himself.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who led the team on the Ireland tour, might lead the team. Notably, Sharma will continue to lead the team in Tests ad ODIs. An Indian Cricket Official has said that the board is looking to appoint separate captains for ODIs and T20Is. The official added that the team needs a fresh approach in the shortest format.

He, however, also mentioned the team also needs consistency with the 2023 ODI World Cup only a year away.

“It’s early to confirm this but yes we are mulling if appointing separate captains for ODI & T20 Squads is the right way. This will help in taking away the load from one person.

“We need fresh approach for T20’s and at the same time consistency in wake of ODI World CUP in India in 2023. The plan can come into play starting January. We will meet and take final calls.”, informed a top Indian Cricket Board official to InsideSport.

Currently, fans have been demanding young players in the Men In Blue setup in T20Is. Meanwhile, the board official has said that they are concerned about the team and the board is determined to find of stopping ‘Knockout Rots’.

“We are not concerned about the individuals. They are capable to take their own calls. We are concerned about Indian cricket, team India. What happened against ENGLAND and what has been happening in KNOCKOUTS should stop. All our decision making will be done keeping this thing in mind on how to end this KNOCKOUT ROT”.
