The much-awaited schedule of the upcoming Commonwealth Games in 2022, set to be held in Birmingham is out. The women’s T20 competition will see India taking on Australia at the Edgbaston Stadium on July 29 in the opening game. The games will culminate with bronze and gold medal matches on August 7. In another game on the opening day, Barbados will face Pakistan.

Hosts England will kick off their campaign against the winner of the qualifying tournament, set to be played before the Commonwealth Games in 2022. England will next cross swords against South Africa on August 2 before taking on New Zealand in the evening session on August 4.

India and Pakistan are set to resume their rivalry on the global stage on July 31. This will be the biggest match considering the history the teams share. ICC had earlier announced seven out of eight qualifiers teams for the global event in April, with the final team to be announced by the end of January 2022.

ICC Acting Chief Executive Geoff Allardice is thrilled to take women’s sport to a wider audience during the Birmingham event in 2022. “We have seen tremendous growth of the women’s game over the past few years and the Commonwealth Games will undoubtedly be another major moment on that journey.

The Australia-India final in 2020 in Melbourne during the 20-20 World Cup last year was a watershed moment in the history of the women’s game as 86000 people attended the match live. Edgbaston will also provide an electric feel when these two teams meet in Commonwealth Games.

“Today’s announcement of the match schedule gives fans lots to look forward to, not least with the opening game between ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 finalists Australia and India and we know that Edgbaston will provide a great stage for the competition.”
