 Indian Cricket Board Confirms VVS Laxman’s Role For The Asia Cup 2022

The 15th edition of the Asia Cup is going to happen on 27 August 2022. India will kick off their campaign on 28 August 2022 against their arch-rivals Pakistan. Meanwhile, India completed another series win in Zimbabwe by winning all three ODIs. However, senior players took a rest from the series.

Even, Rahul Dravid did not travel there as the head coach. Former Indian batter, VVS Laxman traveled with the squad in the absence of Dravid. But, India dealt with a major blow as Rahul Dravid got infected with the Covid infection. So, now, on 24 August 2022, the Indian Cricket Board announced VVS Laxman as the interim Head Coach for the Asia Cup 2022.

Mr. VVS Laxman has linked up with the squad in Dubai – Jay Shah, Secretary of the Indian Cricket Board

The Indian Cricket Board issues an official statement for making this announcement. Jay Shah said that Laxman has already linked up with the team squad in Dubai. He traveled there from Harare only. However, Dravid will look to join the team once he tests Covid negatively. Board’s medical team will look to clear him after his test. 

Speaking about the upcoming mega event, India will look to continue its dominance. They will look to defend their title as Rohit Sharma and others have performed well in recent times in the shortest format of the game. Speaking of the announced squad, India will miss the service of their prime pace bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. He will not be a part of the Asia Cup due to his back issues. Big names like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul will be back in action for India. Youngsters like Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh will also look to showcase their abilities in the Asia Cup.
