Amid the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023, Indian Cricket Board and cricket fans are excited about upcoming multinational tournaments. India is set to face Australia in the Test Championship finals and participate in Asia Cup and World Cup later this year. However, the tussle between the Indian Cricket Board and Pakistan Cricket Board over the hosting rights of Asia Cup 2023 is yet to be resolved.

Speaking about the same, Jay Shah, secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, announced that the final decision over the hosting of the Asia Cup will be taken after the final of IPL 2023. He also announced that several members of the Asian Cricket Council will join the finals of the IPL and an unofficial meeting with them will be organised on the sidelines of IPL.

While speaking with the media Jay Shah, ICB secretary, who is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council said, “The respective presidents of the Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka Cricket Boards will grace the IPL 2023 final to be held on May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. We will hold discussions with them for outlining the future course of action concerning Asia Cup 2023.”

India wants to host Asia Cup at a neutral venue

Notably, amid the ongoing tension between Indian Cricket Board and Pakistan Cricket Board, PCB chief Nazam Sethi proposed a hybrid model to organise the event. In the proposed model, India was set to play their games at a neutral venue, while other teams were asked to play in Pakistan. However, India rejected this model and asked Pakistan to host an entire tournament at a neutral venue.

It is worth noting that, India is also going to organise a 50-over World Cup later this year and Pakistan has threatened to boycott it. However, it is supposed that India will announce the schedule and venues for the prestigious tournament by 27th May after the conclusion of the Extraordinary General Body Meeting on Saturday.
