After a long wait, the Indian Cricket Board has finally ended the suspense of Jasprit Bumrah‘s replacement for the 20-20 World Cup 2022. He was officially ruled out of the tournament early this month due to a back injury. Bumrah wasn’t looking good enough to travel to Australia for the global event. However, the selectors and the team management were playing the waiting for a fair amount of time.

After a while, they realized that it is impossible for the right-arm pacer to play the showpiece event. This is why the selection committee had to rule him out. After all of this, the question arrived about who can replace Bumrah. Two candidates such as Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami were the front runners. However, the selectors have gone with the experience of Shami.

In an official statement from the board, it states that Shami will join the team in Brisbane ahead of the warm-up game against Australia on October 15. Notably, the most of the players are already Down Under and have played two warm games against Western Australia in Perth. Now, the team will play against the hosts on October 15 and then against 2021 finalists, New Zealand on October 17 in Brisbane.

On the other hand, Siraj and Shardul Thakur, who were named in the reserves squad will travel to Australia later. Notably, both players had missed out on the selection last month. However, Deepak Chahar’s injury and bowling concerns have forced the selectors to think otherwise. Chahar has been replace by Thakur who can be termed as a like to like replacement. Both, Chahar and Thakur have been good with the bat and ball over the years. On the other hand, Siraj will be playing his first World Cup.
