The inaugural season of Cricket South Africa’s new T20 league, SA20 is just a few days. The opening game will be played between MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals. Last year, some franchises from the Indian T20 League acquired six teams in the Protean league. This is the reason that this league is called Mini-Indian T20 League. Franchise owners of Rajasthan, Lucknow, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad have purchased teams in SA20.

Notably, the franchises have come up with identical logos and names for their teams in the South African league. They own teams such as Durban Super Giants, Paarl Royals, MI Cape Town, Joburg Super Kings, Pretoria Capitals, and Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Meanwhile, ahead of the tournament, the Indian Cricket Board officials have reportedly expressed their frustration over the logos of the teams. Apparently, one of the officials isn’t happy because of  ‘DILUTION of ITL BRAND’.

Readers might be aware, the board has always been very particular about the exclusivity of the biggest T20 League. Over the years, they haven’t allowed their contracted players to play in other T20 Leagues. Players such as Yuvraj Singh, Pravin Tambe, Irfan Pathan, Manpreet Gony, etc had to retire from Indian cricket to play in other leagues. Meanwhile, one of the board officials isn’t happy with the logos of SA20 as they are identical to what they look in the cash-rich league.

“We are shocked & surprised seeing the LOGOS. We will take up the matter both with Cricket South Africa and these ITL teams. This is completely against the spirit of our understanding with the team owners”, said a very irritated Indian Cricket Board official.

‘we will 100% have call with these teams”.
