BCCI has reportedly had a meeting with the potential bidders for the media rights of the next cycle of 2023-27 of the Indian T20 League. Earlier, it was reported that television giants such as Sky Sports (UK), Supersport (South Africa), Star India, Sony Pictures, Viacom 18, Zee Entertainment, etc have shown interest in the rights. On the other hand, online streaming platforms such as Netflix, Facebook, Apple, and AirTel have shown interest as well.

Meanwhile, a BCCI official, who is involved in the process, has said that the potential buyers will bid for around 400 games for the next five seasons. He added that if there is a change, then the value of the rights will be calculated on a PRO-RATA basis.

“This means Potential Bidders will BID for 400 Matches and rest of the VALUES if the increase happens will be calculated on PRO-RATA BASIS,” a BCCI official said.

Recently, the BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal has said that the cash-rich league’s media rights will set a new benchmark for the sports industry.

“We are confident IPL Media Rights will set new bench-marking for the sports industry. Don’t want to predict any number. But BCCI is confident that it will be a record breaking number”, said BCCI’s Treasurer Arun Dhummal to InsideSport.

On the other hand, COE of Sporty Solutions said that the prices won’t increase from the TV rights but the online streaming platforms will definitely shoot up the prices.

“TV price per match may not see increase more than 20-25%. But the big increase will come from Digital Rights package. All put together the values can touch 115-120 Cr per match according to our estimates. Anything above that will be very difficult for anyone to digest”, said Sports Media Rights veteran and CEO of Sporty Solutionz Ashish Chadha.
Former CEO of Neo Sports, Harish Thawani said that he would be surprised if the media rights don’t shoot up to 40000 crores INR.
“I will not be surprised if it doesn’t cross Rs 40,000 crore. But competitive heat can take it over, Rs 50000 crore. But I really doubt it will go there” declared Harish Thawani, former CEO of Neo Sports
