The English top-order batter Jason Roy has decided to pull out of the Indian T20 League 2022. He cited bio-bubble fatigue as the reason to not play the tournament. He was a member of the newly formed Gujarat team. Roy has also informed the team management about his decision.

The Gujarat team bought him in the recently concluded mega auction for a base price of INR 2 crores. Many considered this as a steal deal as the 31-year can be a destructive batter at the top of the order. With his unavailability, Gujarat is left with limited options to open the innings.

The Gujarat team is now left with a few choices for the opening spot. They have Shubman Gill, who has the highest chances to open the innings and will also have players like Wriddhiman Saha and Matthew Wade who can also open the innings along with Gill.

This, however, is not the first time that he has opted out of the tournament. After being sold to the Delhi team for INR 1.5 crores in 2020, he did not participate in the tournament due to personal reasons.

Roy was summoned in as a substitute in the Hyderabad camp after being unsold in the 2021 season. He got to bat at the top of the order for five matches, replacing David Warner in the playing XI. He appeared in five matches and scored 150 runs at an average of 30. In his entire ITL career, he has 329 runs in 13 matches that he has played.

The batter was last seen in the Pakistan Super League 2022 playing for Quetta Gladiators. He was in an excellent for throughout the season as he scored 303 runs in just six innings. He had an average of 50.50 with a century and two half-centuries.
