The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who defeated the Gujarat Titans (GT) by 5 wickets (DLS) in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) final on Monday, May 29 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, received congratulations from former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir. It is an “unbelievable” accomplishment, according to Gambhir, who led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to two IPL championships in 2012 and 2014 and two more in 2014. “Congratulations CSK! Winning 1 title is difficult, winning 5 is unbelievable!” Gambhir tweeted after the match.

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), who didn’t get past the IPL Eliminator, were coached by Gambhir. After Akash Madhwal became the first bowler to get a five-wicket haul in IPL playoff action, Mumbai Indians (MI) beat them in the Eliminator at the Chepauk. Before the IPL 2023 season began, rumours about Dhoni’s retirement circulated. The 41-year-old claimed that he would dearly want to return and participate in another IPL season.

The easy thing for me to say is thank you and retire: MS Dhoni

“If you circumstantially see, it’s the best time to announce the retirement. The easy thing for me to say is thank you and retire. But the hard thing to do is to work hard for nine months and try to play one more IPL season. The body has to hold up. But the amount of love I have received from CSK fans, it would be a gift for them to play one more season,” Dhoni was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation.

Dhoni grabbed his CSK teammate in celebration after Ravindra Jadeja scored the decisive boundary off Mohit Sharma. Later, Jadeja also gave Dhoni a victory tribute before sharing photos with the captain. The Men in Yellow were given a revised target of 171 to chase down in 15 overs, and they won off the last ball. Earlier, Devon Conway and Ruturaj got the Super Kings’ run-chase off to a fast start.
