Australia defeated Pakistan in the 2024 U19 World Cup. Taking into batting first Pakistan had set a target of 180 runs to chase down. In reply, the match went to last over and with one with in hand, Australia won the match.

While chasing the target of 180 runs Australia got had a good start. They didn’t lose a wicket in powerplay. However, Pakistan got an early breakthrough as Ali Raza bowled Sam Kontas on fourteen runs.

Australia opener Harry Dixon scored 50 runs from 75 balls while Ollie Peak scored 49 runs before getting out to Ali Raza. As wickets started to fall Australia vice-captain Rafael MacMillan stood up and scored the winning runs for the team.  He scored 19 runs from 29 balls.  Callum Vidler also was by his side and scored 2 runs from 9 balls. Pakistan gave 10 runs in extras.

This young Australian team showed a brilliant performance under pressure. As their senior teams show in big matches. This semi-final win not only made their place in the final but their match against match India will be thrilling one.  The U19 final match will be a rematch of their senior team’s 2023 ODI World Cup final.

Battling for the prestigious trophy

In the first innings, Pakistan’s batting collapsed which cost them in losing the match. Pakistan has a tremendous record in the U19 World Cup tournament. They won the U19 World Cup twice in 2004 and 2006. Meanwhile, Australia aims to repeat its senior player’s success in the World Cup.

The Australian senior team has dominated Pakistan in ODI and Test cricket. In 108 ODI games, Australia won 70 games while in 72 Test matches, they won 37 games.

As the U19 World Cup is getting ready for its final show all eyes will be on 11th February as India takes on Australia. This is the third time India and Australia are meeting in the U19 final. In 2012 and 2018 India won the trophy against Australia. Many future stars are battling for the prestigious trophy in South Africa.
