India is set to take on Australia in the 3rd and final ODI of the ongoing series at MA Chidambaram Stadium on March 22. After losing 2nd game India is looking to make a comeback and win the series decider. Although, the major challenge for Rohit Sharma and co. will be the underperforming batting lineup. As the ODI world cup is on the cards For their poor performance all batters including captain Rohit have been facing the heat of criticism. However, Suryakumar Yadav is being criticized mostly by fans and experts for his poor performance as he failed to replicate his talent in the 50-over format.

The world’s no 1 T20I batter has failed to perform in One Day format and has been the biggest loophole in the Indian batting lineup. In the last ten innings, Suryakumar has scored just 110 runs including two 30+ scores and two ducks. In his ODI career, Suryakumar has played 22 games with a below-par average of 25.47. He has scored just 433 runs in 20 innings including two fifties. His last fifty came way back in February 2022. Meanwhile, Head Coach Rahul Dravid is still backing the 33-year-old batter and said he is still adapting to the 50-over format.

In the pre-match press conference, Dravid was asked about his concerns over Suryakumar’s performance and will he be dropped or not. In response, Dravid said, “Not concerned about Surya. He got two very good balls. One of the things about Surya is that he is learning the 50-overs game. The T20 is slightly different. In T20, he has played 10 years of IPL.”

He has not played a lot of one-days – Rahul Dravid

Speaking about it further, Dravid stated that Suryakumar has not played many ODIs and the team will be backing him. “He (Surya) has played a lot of T20 cricket. He has played a lot of high-pressure T20 games. Even though he has played a lot of T20 cricket I think he has not played a lot of one-day cricket. We need to give him some time and be patient with it. We certainly see the upside of him doing well,” he added.

Notably, Suryakumar is playing in place of Shreyas Iyer who has been ruled out of the series due to an Injury. On his Injury, Dravid said, “Obviously. it is unfortunate for Shreyas to get injured. He is probably one of those guys who would bat at No.4 and be given a lot of time in that position. If you notice we have stuck to the people in positions. For two years leading into this run, there is a lot of T20 cricket played and we did not have a lot of one-day cricket and if there are injuries and all that, we do have options.”

However, fans furiously react to Dravid’s backing of Suryakumar Yadav despite his poor run in the 50-over format. A Twitter user said, “Ye jab tak World Cup na hare manenge nhi.”
