The 16th edition of the Indian T20 League kicked off at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahemadabad on Friday, March 31. In the first match, the defending champions Gujarat and the four-time champions Chennai clashed against each other. Gujarat’s skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first after an outstanding opening ceremony.

Meanwhile, during the match, the Gujarat-based franchise’s new addition, Kane Williamson injured himself in an attempt to take the catch of Chennai’s young opening batter, Ruturaj Gaikwad. After which Williamson was taken out of the field. It is being heard that star New Zealand cricket injured his right knee. However, it will only be known after investigations, how serious Williamson’s injury is.

Kane Williamson’s injury looks horrible

Gaikwad hit a shot that middled his bat, and it seemed that the ball would cross the boundary for a six, but Williamson, who was standing on the boundary line, displayed a spectacular fielding effort. He saved the six, but could not stop the four and also injured himself during this terrific attempt. It is clearly visible in the video that he has suffered a serious injury.

If Williamson’s injury is serious, then there can be a big blow for the defending champions. However, the good thing for Hardik Pandya’s team is that there are many foreign options available as a backup. South Africa’s star batter David Miller will return after completing his national duties. He did wonders in the previous season for the franchise and played a very important role in the team lifting the title in their debut season.
