The second season of the Kashmir Premier League is due to begin on the 1st of August and the final match will be played on the 14th of August, 2022. The league has grabbed attention as the officials have expressed their interest in inviting Virat Kohli as a player or a special guest.

The president of the KPL, Arif Malik said that they will be sending out an invitation to Kohli and let him decide whether to participate as a player or visit as a guest.

“Rizwan gave a very positive message that cricket should be beyond anything else. So, we are sending a letter to Virat Kohli, inviting him to play in the league or at least come and watch one match,”- said Malik in a video. He further said that the preparations for the second season of the tournament are in full swing.

Malik also stressed the fact that KPL is trying to send a message of peace to the world. “We want Indian cricketers to be a part of the league and want to reduce tensions on both sides through cricket,”- Malik further added.

While speaking about the format of the tournament, Malik said- “Along with the KPL, cricket fans will also get to see a fantasy league in which teams from Muzaffarabad and Srinagar will be seen playing virtually with each other. We want to bring people of both sides together so that we can spread the message of peace.”

Former Pakistani wicket-keeper Rashid Latif has recently been appointed as the Director of Cricket Operations for the tournament. He also spoke in the same lines as Malik in the matter of sending an invitation to Kohli.

“We should send an invitation but the decision to play lies with the player,”- said Latif during a conversation with Dawn News.

“It’s good to initiate such a thing. I also advised (Najam) Sethi to send invitations to all cricket boards, which includes BCCI as well, for PSL,”-Latif added.
